METRIC TONS OF CO2 9000 Between February 2009 and July 2012 CenterPoint Energy installed more than 2.2 million smart meters for residential and business customers in Houston. Smart meters make detailed electricity consumption information available to customers to help them control their energy use. The meters can also be read connected and disconnected remotely resulting in fewer company trucks on the road and preventing approximately 9000 metric tons of CO2 emissions.
